Get a load of this peeps! "PlayStation 3 systems across the globe have been struck with the 8001050F error. On February 28, the calendar on original PS3 systems was reset to January 1, 2000, blocking access to online content. It has been confirmed that Slim PS3 systems have not been affected. The console will fail to access PSN, load games with Trophies or play PS3 Originals or Premium Themes. Users have reported that Trophy data has also been wiped. The error has been identified to strike offline systems, suggesting a firmware error related to a leap year miscalculation. Sony has told Twitter followers: "We're aware that many of you are having problems connecting to PSN, and yes, we're looking into it. Stay tuned for updates." It has been advised that users with older PS3 models should not use their console until further notice." Kinda similar to the Y2K thing huh? I've been talking to people and they said that the date either resets to Dec. 31, 1999 or Jan. 1, 2000... I have a PS3 myself, as does some of my mates, and there is no way we're switching our consoles back on until all of this is sorted! There's all sorts of rumours going around, including someone hacking Sonys servers and a virus getting into the PSN (Playstation Network)

Apparently the bug has 'resolved itself' after the date changed to March 2nd, confirming really that it was indeed a 'Y2K' bug. However, I'm still a bit nervous over putting mine on It comes as a huge blow to Sony; with 4 of the PS3s biggest games of the year out around this time (Heavy Rain, Bad Company 2, Final Fantasy XIII and God of War 3) Just goes to show everyone how easy it is for technology to mess up!

It was indeed I've had mine on now, it seems to be fine although internet is still a bit shaky, they must be doing maintenance on it to try and stop the problem from re occurring I haven't got any new games cause there aren't any that interest me tbh, although I have prebooked Final Fantasy XIII which is out on Tuesday...been looking forward to that one for about 2 years

They did keep it quiet, i thought it would have been on the main news considering how many folk got affected

Obviously the fact that they couldn't do anything about it and didn't even know what was wrong kept it out of the news, it woulda really shown them up - and especially to Microsoft and the Xbox 360s
