.... Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney today released his tax records for public perusal following pressure from his fellow nominees and the public alike
They show he earned over $21 million in 2012 and gave $3 million to charity but the shock among Americans will be that he pays a 14% tax rate, perfectly within the law but thats alot lower than the 35% paid by most middle class Americans
His 2010 return also showed that he had a financial account in Switzerland that was closed in 2010 and that he generated income from overseas investments. He also has financial accounts in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands
"I pay all the taxes that are legally required, not a dollar more," he said. "I'm proud of the fact that I pay a lot of taxes." ** Meanwhile Gingrich has his own issues. Under mounting pressure he arranged for details of his arrangement with failed mortgage company Freddie Mac which showed them paying his consulting firm a $25,000 monthly retainer fee in 2006, for a total of $300,000.
The agreement calls for "consulting and related services" but makes no mention of lobbying of which Gingrich was accused by among others his rival Mitt Romney. ** Today is Obama's State of the Union Address

.... 25 Jan 2012Gingrich v Pelosi - Whats all that about?Newt Gingrich has told Nancy Pelosi to "bring it out" if as she is strongly hinting that she knows something that could damage his position v Romney for the Republican nomination
"I think if she knows something, she ought to say it, and if she doesn't know something, she ought to quit saying it," Gingrich told Fox News on Wednesday. "But this is baloney." Pelosi said earlier on CNN that Gingrich will "never" be president.
"That's not going to happen. Let me just make my prediction and stand by it -- it isn't going to happen," Pelosi said.
Asked why she's so sure, Pelosi answered: "There's something I know. The Republicans, if they choose to nominate him, that's their prerogative." Romney repeated that call following Pelosi's comment.
"If Nancy Pelosi knows those things right now, she will hand them to Barack Obama's campaign if Speaker Gingrich were our nominee," Romney told Fox News. As for Obama's State of the Union address, from the views of some Americans post speech the general opinion seems to be "meh" - must do better Mr President !! *thanks to Fox News for the quotes

.... 28 Jan 2012 NOW YOU'RE TALKIN GINGRICH !!!in his latest speeches on the 'Space Coast' Florida, Gingrich was talking my language and in this point if i was an American he definately would be getting my vote
he wants to build a moon base !! yep thats the way to go
"I am sick of being told we have to be timid," Gingrich told an enthusiastic crowd in Florida on Wednesday.
He revived an old idea of his to let Americans colonize the moon and petition for statehood once 13,000 of them are in place
He said he wants to approve a "Northwest Ordinance for space," which like the original would presumably facilitate the statehood process.
He called for NASA to devote 10 percent of its budget to prize money so the private sector would be incentivized to take the lead on spaceflight -- making the mission such a frenzy that the country eventually holds several launches every day.
He also made it clear that if the Americans fell behind in the space race the Chinese would be dominant in travelling through the galaxy
"I'd like to find enough millionaires and billionaires who say, you know, I'd love to be part of space and I'll kick in my share," he said.
Gingrich threw another idea onto the pile. Because the moon contains a lot of water, he said, America could use the moon as a water "refueling place" on the way to Mars and other reaches of the solar system.
Romney's reply was that Gingrichs ideas where a bit far fetched but that he would rescue the space programme that Obama had turned into disarray on his watch
I must say I like Newt's approach to the space programme, shows a bit of imagination and ambition

.... 29 Jan 2012 ROMNEY SURGES IN POLLSRomney has surged ahead in the polls in the Sunshine State
a Miami Herald/El Nuevo Herald/Tampa Bay Times poll released late Saturday night showed Romney ahead of Gingrich 42-31 % among likely Republican voters. Paul and Santorum, who have not dedicated many resources to the Sunshine State, are far behind
the lead is in part due to a massive $6.8 million ad campaign by Romney in the final week before the vote
Gingrich called the ad campaign an "amazing amount of money."
It's a "basic policy of carpet-bombing his opponents," Gingrich said of the Romney ads.
"We have a shot of winning, but frankly it's uphill against the sheer weight of Romney's money and the negativity of his campaign," Gingrich told "Fox News Sunday."
Romney had a series of rallies planned for south Florida on Sunday, and is looking ahead to the next-up Nevada caucuses -- airing ads in that state ahead of the Feb. 4 contest with the objective of wrapping up the nomination as quickly as possibe*photo AP
