His influence is superb. He was absolutely outstanding and having worked with him for so long, I can clearly see why he was one of Europe's top defenders for so many years. We'll have to search far and wide to get someone in to be at that level."
Rodgers: "We've scored a lot of goals this year but we obviously need to improve in that aspect as well to be able to break down teams who come and maybe want to defend that wee bit deeper. But that's for the future. Today the players gave everything and we just couldn't quite make that breakthrough."
"I wasn't 100 per cent sure at the time whether it was for Sylvain Distin's push on Jamie Carragher's back or whether it was Anichebe. And I think it was Anichebe. But the referee saw it early and he was clear. I thought Michael Oliver did very well today. I thought he was excellent."
Rodgers on Everton's disallowed goal: "I think when you see it again, the referee has clearly got good a sight of it early and as the ball has virtually left the corner, he's blown up for a foul."
Rodgers: "It was a typical, frantic game. We were much better in the second half and created a few opportunities and maybe could have gone on and scored."
